Pilot & Feasibility Grant Program
Call for Proposals
Availability & Purpose of Funds
- We have funding to support new initiatives in diabetes research from the Diabetes Research and Training Center Grant starting December 1, 2009. Additional funds may also be available to this program through a special ARRA initiative, starting September 30, 2009. For this reason we have increased the maximum funding that may be requested (see below).
- The purpose of these funds is to foster pilot and/or feasibility projects required to develop preliminary data sufficient to provide the basis for submission of an application for independent NIH research support through conventional granting mechanisms.
- Solicitations are sought from all departments of Washington University.
Qualifications
- The following individuals qualify for grant support under the Pilot and
Feasibility Studies Program:
- New faculty members involved in diabetes related research that have not yet obtained their own independent funding.
- Established investigators in an area related to diabetes research that are proposing new pilot and/or feasibility studies not directly related to previously supported research.
- Established investigators in non-diabetes related fields who are entering into new pilot and/or feasibility studies related to diabetes.
- Applicants should hold a faculty level appointment and be independent investigators. Postdoctoral Fellows or their equivalent are not eligible for support under this program.
- There is no specific citizenship requirement for the applicant.
- If you have received a prior Pilot & Feasibility award, you are still invited to submit another application; however, first priority will be given to those who have not had a previous award.
- Up to 10% salary support for faculty will be considered, so long as this amount does not exceed 25% of the total award.
- A copy of the NIH guidelines for the program is enclosed.
Award & Review
- Funding up to $100,000 direct costs per year will be considered. A second year of funding may be requested, if the total amount requested over two years does not exceed $150,000. The second year of funding is contingent upon a successful progress report.
- All requests will be rated by a Grant Review Committee with the help of selected outside consultants who have expertise in the proposed area of investigation.
