Descriptor of Research:
The three homologs of the Golgi-localized, gamma-ear-containing, ADP-ribosylation factor-binding proteins (GGAs 1,2, and 3) of mammalian cells are monomeric clathrin adaptor proteins. Cell-culture based studies showed that GGAs participate in Glut 4 trafficking in insulin responsive cells. We have generated GGA1,GGA3 and GGA1/3 null mice in a mixed background and are backcrossing them into the C57bl background for use in studies of glucose tolerance, insulin responsiveness, glut4 trafficking and adipocyte function. The GGA2 KO is neonatal lethal, so can’t be used for these types of studies.
