Descriptor of Research:

Investigating the mechanisms of action of T1D susceptibility locus Clec16A. Clec16A has been identified as a candidate susceptibility locus for T1D as well as other autoimmune disorders. We have identified mutations in the Clec16A orthologs in both Drosophila and mouse. We are investigating the fundamental cellular functions of Clec16A in hopes of understanding why it is a susceptibility factor for T1D.
